Music lovers, get ready to head to the desert. That’s right: Festival season is almost upon us! Once you’ve scored your tickets and picked out a breezy sundress, the only thing left to do is experiment with your ‘do. Between stunning bohemian hairstyles, intricate braids, and flower crowns galore, there’s no better time of year to let your imagination run wild.
This year, you don’t need to scour through Pinterest in search of festival-worthy hair. We teamed up with Casondra Rolph, Redken artist, to bring you the hottest festival hairstyle to date. Paired with ash blonde hair or dark brown strands, this festival chain braid is sure to look stunning on you!
How To Style A Festival Chain Braid
Begin by detangling your mane with a boar bristle brush. Once your strands are snarl-free, create a middle part. Take a dime-size amount of the Redken Dry Shampoo Paste 05 and rub it between your palms before distributing it evenly throughout the hair. This dry shampoo and styling paste hybrid is provides reworkable hold with the freshness of a dry shampoo while adding texture, and absorbing oil for the perfect, undone look.
Once you’ve applied the product, it’s time to start braiding! Decide whether you want to create your festival braid on the left or right side of your head. Section off two 1-inch pieces of hair about two inches back from your hairline on either side.
Take one of the sections and tie a metallic thread to the base using a hair elastic.
Using the metallic string as one of your strands, begin to craft a traditional three-strand braid. Take the section farthest to the right and cross it over the middle section. Then, take the segment farthest to the left and cross it over the middle. Continue repeating these steps until you reach the end of your hair.
Pancake your braid by gently pulling apart each section with your thumb and pointer finger, a simple trick that adds instant volume and fullness to any braid.
Apply a few spritzes of the Redken Triple Dry 15 Dry Texture Spray to the end of your braid. Use this ultra-fine mist to create airy texture and just the right amount of lift.
Use the remaining metallic string to lock your plait in place. Use bobby pins to secure any loose pieces of hair. Complete your festival braid with a few spritzes of Redken Triple Take 32 Extreme High-Hold Hairspray. The highest hold hairspray with volumizing spray gives hair long lasting body, while protecting from frizz and giving hair humidity protection.
If you’ve made it this far, congrats! Pair your effortlessly beautiful braid with a killer makeup look, and you’re ready to take on festival season in style.
