5 Runway Hair Color Trends You'll Want To Ask Your Stylist About
September is a big month for many reasons. It marks the end of summer (and summer Fridays), the beginning of school, and your first chance to get your hands on everyone’s favorite pumpkin spice latte. If you’re into fashion, however, September is important for a much different reason: fashion week.
Fashion week provides everyone from celebrities to their fans tons of clothing inspiration. However, fashion weeks impact goes way beyond your wardrobe. The trends you see on the runway also directly impact the beauty world. From the color designer's showcase to the hair and makeup they choose for each model, some of beauty’s most significant runway hair color trends come directly from the runway.
If you’ve been thinking about switching up your go-to dark brown hair color but want to be sure your new hue is just as on-trend as your attire—you’ve come to the right place. We did the hard work for you and rounded up the five biggest runway hair color trends this year. Once you see how amazing they look, you’ll want to schedule an appointment with your colorist ASAP.
Neon Hair Color
If you’re looking to make a major hair color change, look no further than one of the biggest trends on runways all over the world this season: neon. Models hit the runways slaying shades of shocking green and vibrant yellow. Colorful hair like neon hues requires quite a bit of maintenance, but the work will be well worth it to have the trendiest hair of the season.
Red Hair Color
Whether you’re talking about hair or clothes, red is a classic color that never goes out of style. That was made evident this year when designers flooded the runways with vibrant crimson shades. The best thing about red hair is that—just like the perfect red lipstick—there’s a hue that looks good on everyone.
Orange Hair Color
Not to be outdone by red, orange is another bold color that designers love this year. Orange shades are perfect for anyone who loves the classic look of red strands but wants a hue that’s a bit bolder. Whether you opt for a bright pumpkin shade or a subdued sherbert, you won’t be able to get enough.
Pastel Hair Color
If you missed out on the pastel hair trend when it first became popular a few years ago, you’re in luck! Pastels are back and better than ever. Soft blues, greens, and pinks dominated the hair and clothing on the runway this year. Redken’s very own Guido Palau, Global Creative Director, created stunning pastel hair for Marc Jacob’s SS19 show.
“It was a very important part of the visual and style for the overall hair, as it is reminiscent of the overall look with antique colors,” Palau explains. “I color-coordinated with Marc based on the clothing to create this overall exaggerated, high-fashion look. There’s blues, peaches, greys, reds… colors all over the board.”
Riding on the coattails of the glass hair trend, shiny hair was a huge hit on the runways this year. From slicked back wet looks to sleek and insanely glossy bobs, shiny hair was absolutely everywhere. We understand that “shiny” isn’t an actual hair color. However, there are color services you can opt for that will make your hair color appear shinier than ever.
If you’re looking to take your hair color to the next level, ask your colorist for a gloss. While making your hair appear shiny is not the primary purpose of a gloss, the name is inspired by the fact that the service is usually acid-based. It helps seal down the hair cuticle to create a reflective surface.
